Based on Biderman’s research and the experiences of POWs in the Korean War, the military set up special training to teach soldiers to resist such tactics. This training was specifically designed to match the experiences of soldiers in Korean War POW camps (and later modified to include the similar experiences of Vietnam War POWs). For the soldiers being trained, it is about proving their machismo and personal strength:
