Concepts of Security - Suburbia

Housing was an especially booming market after World War Two, and ad agencies and public institution co-operated strongly in persuading Americans into buying new homes. Levittown, NY was conceptualized by William Levitt based upon mass-production building technology like that which was used during the war. The expansion of single family housing was supported by the Federal Housing Administration. The housing patterns instated with the support of the FHA and other government organizations resulted in racially segregated commnunities which, studies show, have endured even til modern day.

Soon various companies pressed on the market offering affordable mass produced homes. Between 1947 and 1953, the number of people living in the suburbs increased by 43%, and by 1960 62% of Americans owned their own homes.
